Student Experiences

Stephen Burrell, COSOPO student 2012-2014

”I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience of the COSOPO programme so far. The best thing about the course is undoubtedly its international nature. It has been fascinating to not only study the social policies of different countries, but to actually visit those countries and spend time with the people who live there. This gives you a huge amount of insight into the impact of social policy in different places, and it has also presented a tremendous opportunity to meet people from all over the world and from all sorts of different backgrounds. I have made lifelong friends with some of my fellow COSOPO students and have learned a lot from all of them.

We have covered a wide range of interesting material which has proven to be both challenging and rewarding, and students are given quite a lot of freedom as to what we study and how we do so. I think COSOPO will definitely stand me in good stead for both further studies and the working world. I am also really looking forward to writing my Master’s thesis, which I have received a great deal of help and guidance with here at UTA. The COSOPO staff here in Tampere are incredibly helpful, flexible and motivational. Altogether, the course has made me feel inspired, and passionate about studying social policy and its potential to have a positive impact upon society.”
